COUNTY ANNEX PASSPORT SERVICES ARE BOOMING

August 27, 2015

The lines for passports have grown in Galveston County.

Passport seekers like Kathy Hammers used to have to stand in line at the post office to apply. Hammers said services offered by the District Clerk at the Galveston County Annex in League City made the process quick and easy.

“It was just very easy to come in and fill out the paperwork at the office, I had read what was needed so I was prepared,” Hammers said.

Galveston County District Clerk John Kinard said the feedback has been so great, passport business has continued to double each year for the last three years, requiring him to increase staff.

“I’m very happy commissioners were very supportive and added a third position here in League City so we will have enough people to process the passports when people come in,” Kinard said. “It’s rewarding for everyone.”

Kinard said the best part, no appointments necessary.

“I think that’s what we’re here for is to make life easier for the citizens of Galveston County and this is one of the ways we’ve done that,” he said.

Passports are processed Monday- Friday 9 a.m. until 4 p.m and right now the turnaround is four to six weeks.

According to Kinard, passports cost $135, and $110 dollars of that needs to be in a separate money order or check made out to the Department of State. The remaining $25 is what the county charges as a processing fee and can be paid by cash, check or money order.
