Be Prepared This Hurricane Season

Hurricane Season Has Officially Started

June 1st marked the beginning of the 2019 hurricane season and now is the time to ensure you are prepared for any potential storms that may impact Galveston County between now and November, when hurricane season ends.

Preparation all starts with making a plan and communicating with your family and loved ones. Your hurricane plan should answer four essential questions:

  1. How will I receive emergency alerts?

  2. What is my plan for sheltering?

  3. What will I do in the case of an evacuation?

  4. What is my family’s communication plan?

Making a hurricane preparation plan should also be accompanied by the building of an emergency supply kit that can be utilized in the event of a storm. An effective kit should include:

  • A flashlight

  • Batteries

  • Water and food for 72 hours

  • Cash

  • Prescriptions and medications

  • First aid supplies

  • Copies of important papers

Make a plan, build a kit and stay informed this hurricane season. For more information about getting prepared, visit www.gcoem.org or www.ready.gov.
