PUBLIC INVITED TO MULTI-JURISDICTIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION OPEN HOUSE

The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) invites the public to participate in the development of the Galveston County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The meeting will take place on Monday, Oct. 19 from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Doyle Center, 2010 5th Avenue N., Texas City 77590.

The purpose of the open house meeting, hosted by the Galveston County OEM in conjunction with the Galveston County Commissioners Court and local city officials, is to develop a plan with input from the general public.

“The goal in developing a multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan is to reduce loss of life and property during a hazard,” County Judge Mark Henry said. “By planning and communicating with each other prior to an emergency, we will be better prepared to address the next natural disaster when it occurs.”

During the open house, citizens will be given an opportunity to provide their input regarding hazard concerns and projects. This information will then be used in the development of the Galveston County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan which includes the jurisdictions of Bayou Vista, Clear Lake Shores, Friendswood, Hitchcock, Jamaica Beach, Kemah, La Marque, Santa Fe and Village of Tiki Island.

“We have all learned valuable lessons from disasters that have impacted our communities,” Henry said. “This exchange of information will benefit community leaders and the general public as they learn to be more self-sufficient in preparing for and recovering from natural disasters.”

If anyone is unable to attend the meeting, they may provide their input regarding natural hazards by completing an online survey from Oct. 19 to Nov. 20, 2015 at:
